With so many changes happening every day, it can be hard to keep up with everything that’s going on in your community. At Aspira, our goal is to provide accurate, up-to-date information about the Covid-19 pandemic in Sussex County. Here are a few FAQs to help you understand what’s happening with Covid in Sussex County this month.

Covid Numbers for Sussex County

Since last year, we’ve been posting our Covid testing numbers each day on our website. You can get a picture of what Covid numbers look like in Sussex County by viewing our infographic. Currently, Aspira is testing between 80 and 180 patients a day. Between 10 to 40 patients test positive each day.

Have Covid Cases Increased or Decreased?

As of October 2021, there is a decline in Covid cases. This is following a nationwide downward trend. Recently, Delaware had 360 positive cases in one day. We tested 15 of them. Compared to previous months, the numbers are going down.

How is the Virus Changing?

Viruses mutate to stay alive. In doing so, they infect new groups of people who don’t have a defense system to fight it off. Previously, Covid was primarily affecting older populations. The virus has mutated, and now younger people are getting more severe symptoms. It’s more common to see 30, 40, and 50-year-olds in the ICU with Covid than it was last year. The delta variant is causing young people to experience more intense, life-threatening symptoms, so getting vaccinated is important.

Aspira Offers Vaccines and Booster Shots

We have been offering boosters and mass vaccination clinics for at-risk groups. For people over 65 and young people with certain conditions, getting vaccinated can be lifesaving. Immunocompromised people can get the third shot 28 days after they get the second dose. Antibodies taper quickly over time, so boosters will be needed to keep people protected as the virus changes.

What are the Symptoms of Covid-19?

Although the virus has mutated, the symptoms are still the same. Covid-19 symptoms closely resemble cold and flu, with the defining symptom being the loss of taste and smell. Getting vaccinated will reduce the severity of symptoms if you get infected and protect your organs from long-term damage.

If you are sick, we will be able to determine the cause of your symptoms and get you the proper treatment, even if it’s not Covid.
